Henry II Great Seal – Seal of the Angevin Empire
This wax seal is based on the Great Seal of King Henry II of England (1133–1189), also known as Henri II Plantagenêt in French and Henricus II Rex Angliae in Latin. Founder of the Angevin Empire, Henry II was one of the most powerful and complex monarchs of the medieval period, ruling England, large parts of France (including Normandy, Anjou, and Aquitaine), and exerting authority over Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
As the first Plantagenet king, Henry II was a legal reformer, remembered for transforming English law and royal governance. He was the father of Richard the Lionheart and King John, and husband to the formidable Eleanor of Aquitaine. His reign was marked by fierce political struggles, including the infamous conflict with Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.
This wax seal design is based on Henry's second seal believed to be used between 1154 -1189 and reflects the authority and grandeur of the Angevin dynasty. Featuring Henry on horseback in classic equestrian pose, clad in armour and bearing his shield and sword, it represents royal legitimacy, feudal power, and the might of the 12th-century English monarchy. This piece is ideal for historians, re-enactors, and enthusiasts of the Plantagenet age.
Seal your letters with the legacy of a true medieval sovereign — the king who ruled more of France than the French king himself.
