This wax seal stamp is based on the seal of Albert V of Habsburg (1397–1439), a significant dynastic ruler of the early 15th century. A member of the House of Habsburg, Albert served as Duke of Austria and later became King of Hungary, Croatia, and Bohemia. In 1438, he was elected King of the Romans, positioning him as ruler of the Holy Roman Empire, though he died before receiving imperial coronation.
Albert’s reign represents an important moment in the consolidation of Habsburg influence in Central Europe. His succession to multiple crowns followed the death of his father-in-law, Sigismund of Luxembourg, linking the Habsburg and Luxemburg dynasties and extending Habsburg authority across key territories. His rule was marked by ongoing conflicts with the Ottoman Empire in Hungary and internal challenges within his realms.
Seals such as this were central to medieval governance, serving as instruments of authentication for charters, decrees, and official correspondence. They conveyed both personal authority and dynastic legitimacy, ensuring that documents carried legal and political weight across distant regions. The design associated with Albert’s seal reflects the heraldic and symbolic conventions of late medieval rulership, emphasising lineage, sovereignty, and continuity.
