This wax seal stamp features Gandalf’s Rune, the ancient Sindarin letter “G” used by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (later Gandalf the White) in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Carved in the flowing script of the Elves, this rune became the wizard’s personal symbol and was most famously marked on the door of Bag End, signalling to Thorin Oakenshield’s Company that Bilbo Baggins was to join their quest to reclaim Erebor in The Hobbit.
The rune itself originates in Sindarin, one of Tolkien’s Elvish languages, adapted from the Angerthas Cirth (runes) used in Middle-earth. Gandalf used it as his personal sign, a mark of wisdom, mystery, and guidance, often appearing where he had been or to indicate his involvement. It represents not only his name but also his role as a protector and guide in the struggles against the darkness of Sauron.
