Richard I Wax Seal Stamp – Medieval Royal Emblem

This wax seal stamp is based on the Great Seal associated with Richard I of England, a Plantagenet ruler known for his reputation in medieval tradition and his long periods spent outside England during his reign.

Richard became king in 1189, the son of Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. His rule is associated with military campaigns in the eastern Mediterranean and continued efforts to secure strategic territories across the Angevin realm.

Much of his reign was spent away from England, where he was captured during his return journey to Europe and later released after a substantial ransom was paid. His later years were focused on reasserting control in parts of France until his passing in 1199.

The seal design reflects his equestrian Great Seal used between 1189 and 1197, showing him mounted in armour with regalia typical of late 12th-century royal iconography. Such seals were used to authenticate official documents and represent authority across his domains.

Richard’s legacy is closely linked with medieval storytelling and later literary tradition, where he became associated with figures such as Saladin, who was his contemporary during the same period.

The brass seal has a diameter of 50 mm.
