Marie of Burgundy Wax Seal Stamp – Ducal Emblem

This wax seal stamp is based on the emblem associated with Mary of Burgundy, one of the most important female rulers of late medieval Europe and the last reigning Duchess of Burgundy.

Mary inherited the Burgundian territories in 1477 following the passing of Charles the Bold, bringing together a large and influential collection of lands across the Low Countries. Her accession marked a significant turning point in the region’s political landscape, as major European powers sought influence over her inheritance.

In the same year, she married Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, creating a dynastic union that linked the Burgundian territories with the House of Habsburg and reshaped the balance of power in Western Europe for generations.

Her reign is associated with the continuation of Burgundian administrative tradition and courtly culture within the Netherlands, as well as the transition of Burgundian influence into the emerging Habsburg sphere. She was succeeded by her son Philip, who inherited her titles and territories.

This design reflects the style of Burgundian ducal seals used for official documents and correspondence in the late 15th century.

Each stamp is made of solid brass, supplied with a wooden handle and presented in a velvet pouch.
