Henry VII Wax Seal Stamp – The First Tudor King
(Henry VII of England, 1457–1509; Welsh: Harri Tudur; Latin: Henricus Septimus)
This wax seal stamp is based on the heraldic arms used by King Henry VII, the founder of the House of Tudor and the monarch who ended the Wars of the Roses. As the victor of the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, Henry defeated Richard III and united the warring houses of Lancaster and York, marking the beginning of a new and transformative era in English history.
Born Harri Tudur in Pembroke Castle, Wales, Henry was a distant claimant to the throne through his mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort. Forced into exile for much of his youth, Henry returned to England with French support and seized the crown on the battlefield. His marriage to Elizabeth of York symbolically ended the dynastic conflict and established the iconic Tudor Rose, a fusion of red (Lancaster) and white (York).
Henry VII’s reign laid the foundations of a strong central monarchy. Through careful diplomacy, marriage alliances, and financial reforms, he brought peace and stability to a fractured realm. His rule also ushered in the Renaissance in England and ensured the succession of his famed son, Henry VIII.
"His spirit was distinguished, wise and prudent; his mind was brave and resolute and never, even at moments of the greatest danger, deserted him." - Polydore Vergil (circa 1505), Italian ambassador to Henry VII
